The history of LOMO
One of the most important traffic and goods flows in the divided Germany was the route from north to south and back over the Federal Road B 27. Bad Hersfeld was situated right in the middle between the North Sea ports on the one side and, for example, the Munich region. Because the road distances involved were approx. 400 kilometres, an urgent refuelling requirement in Bad Hersfeld resulted for trucks on this route.

Therefore the fuel depot in Friedloser Straße (sited directly on the B 27) was connected to a large fuel depot for long-distance road trucks, which was frequented by trucking companies and their drivers as a popular service station. On days and nights when there was heavy traffic, long queues of about 200 metres in length of waiting trucks formed in both directions.

This business was successfully accepted by approx. 300 trucking companies throughout Germany because refuelling no longer had to be implemented on a cash basis only, but could also be paid on credit with bills every two weeks.
